Erpelding Excavating is currently interviewing for the following positions for our 2023 season:
*Equipment Operator – full time position. Hours will vary based upon the weather & workload, but a typical day will start at 7am & end around 6pm. Duties include but are not limited to 1) operating excavators, dozers, skid loaders & other heavy equipment as needed, 2) equipment mobilization, 3) machine inspections & general equipment maintenance, 4) conducting safety inspections & paperwork, 5) communicating with other crew members, subcontractors &/or project managers, 6) general laborer tasks as needed, etc. Operators will complete construction tasks such as installing tile mains for farm drainage, digging basements, installing or repairing storm sewers & water services, installing or repairing sewer pipe & septic systems, land clearing & grubbing, grading building pads & much more.
Candidates must 1) be dependable & willing to report to work on time, 2) have the ability to work extended hours during construction season & odd days/times for things like extinguishing fires, moving snow & fixing emergency water leaks, 3) be safety minded, 4) be a team player & willing to jump out of your machine to help with other tasks when necessary, 5) communicate effectively with others, 6) be open to learning company specific skills, 7) be physically capable of mounting, dismounting & cleaning your machine(s), 8) be able to operate using cat controls, & 9) have at least 1 year of experience operating. No specific education is required. Knowledge of GPS, a Class A CDL & the ability to read & understand construction plans are not required but are a big plus.
*Laborer - full time position. Hours will vary based upon the weather & workload, but a typical day will start at 7am & end around 6pm. Duties include but are not limited to 1) running grade for an equipment operator 2) laying & hooking up plastic, concrete & metal pipe & tile 3) equipment & material mobilization 4) conducting safety inspections & paperwork, 5) communicating with other crew members, subcontractors &/or project managers both verbally & with hand signals, 6) maintaining a clean job site, 7) greasing equipment as needed, etc. This position will be responsible for completing construction tasks such as assisting equipment operators, inspecting trenches, keeping a clean & organized jobsite, keeping track of materials & completing paperwork, etc.
Candidates must 1) be dependable & willing to report to work on time, 2) be safety minded, 3) be organized, 4) have good communication skills & 5) be physically capable of mounting & dismounting equipment & ladders. No specific education or experience is required. This position requires that you wear certain personal protective equipment, most of which will be provided to you.
*Project Manager / Foreman - full time, could possibly be part time or a seasonal position. Duties include but are not limited to 1) meeting with customers regarding jobs, 2) completing safety checks & paperwork, 3) acting as the competent person, 4) managing all aspects of the job site (employees, equipment, materials, schedules, etc), 5) assisting in training employees, etc. Hours will vary based upon the weather & work load, but a typical day will start at 7am & end at approximately 6pm. Responsibilities may include scheduling crews, ordering & organizing delivery of materials & equipment, managing crews & communicating between management, customers & your crews to manage expectations & keep projects moving.
Candidates must have 1) experience, 2) good communication & organizational skills, 3) be safety minded & 4) work well with others. Experience with GPS, reading plans & running a crew are a plus but not required. This position requires that you wear certain personal protective equipment, most of which will be provided to you.
